Date: Tue, 19 Sep 2000 13:57:41 +0200 Reply-To: hazydavey@egroups.com Subject: [hd] new rambles on e-music space/shaun's song/cohen, the doors and punk references dear friend from hazydavey/new serenaders list and oxford songwriters' list - copy to my italian list, i want to let you know the new movements in cyber-soundspace. i uploaded "wired" -- a fingerpicked song of mine. now i'm uploadin "headful of you" -- finally it's not just me, but also the maestro at the accordion and good friend bone who does the slide part. we do like the song, hope you like it. i had mixed it already a couple of weeks ago, but then i listened to it thru a serious rack and realised it sounded a bit like crap -- to much bass and no treble. it often happens to folks like us who record and mix at home. i often cut all the hi-mid and the treble cause i fear background noise -- but it's a stupid thing to do. now i know that if we give them the right sounds, who cares about a little noise? so i also removed "sonya yana meme komba". like all other stuff i mixed, it has to be remixed. at the moment i only remixed "wired" and "headful of you", and i hope some of you will use the left space, especially when i remove "born in a minor key" which should be quite soon. also because i sure won't have anything new for a while (we are not mixin these days, but writin, rehearsin and eventually recordin the basic tracks for new songs). then... i also downloaded shaun's new song, "snow came down" -- i love it and that makes me wanna tell you why. when i was a young boy, i was very little into acoustic music. it was the end of the '70s and everything then was anger, lo-fi and hi volume, and lotta beer in our young bellies. in 1979 and 1980 i also had the luck to smell some of that air, being in the UK for a couple of months. for many years, then, i only listened to punk-rock -- the clash were my faves but also many others. well, shaun's song reminded me of an interview to johnny lydon (aka johnny rotten, sex pistols' singer) which i often recall these days too... in this interview, lydon was asked what music he listened to and liked. he maybe groaned a little, then said: "i always and only listen to two records: "waiting for the sun" by the doors and the first of leonard cohen". i love them cause they sing as if the world is ending". well, i always was fascinated, not only by morrison and cohen's singing, but also by lydon's definition. it was then i realised - and still it is so -- that i had the same feelings about some singers. sometimes i make some imperfect, difficult, troublesome, suffering recordings which i appreciate more than "clean" ones, because it seems to me... that i sing as if the world (or at least my world) is ending. i have this feeling from shaun's song, too. i really love "snow came down", and i think shaun's (non) style really matches my imperfection. of course i do love db's song, too :) and welcome david, shaun and anyone else to keep sharin their things. now the area is probably full, but in a couple of days i will remove some of my stuff. take care, hd home |
