Dear Mom
There’s Really nothing much to say
All it’s done is rain today
I wish that I was home
Dear Mom
The hills are grey and black and green
Full of enemy unseen
I’m keeping my head down
Dear Mom
The jungle’s thick and hot and wet
We haven't seen no Charley yet
It’s like a ghost we’re fighting
The chopper’s coming in
The smoke is swirling ‘round
Bullets snapping past my ears
I feel my heartbeat pound
As I try to hug the ground
Lord just get me out of here
Dear Mom
Napalm spreads its deadly fire
The earth becomes a funeral pyre
I can hear them screaming
Dear Mom
Billy’s going home today
He’ll Never walk again they say
I loved him like my brother
Dear Mom
I’d love to hear your voice again
Someday this crazy war will end
Then I’ll be coming home
With slender aging hands
She folds the letters neat
And ties the bundle up with lace
With tender loving care
She puts them in the drawer
A tear comes tumbling down her face
